Tuesday's Travel Tips – San Jose, California

This week’s Tuesday’s Travel Tips takes us to San Jose, California. This sunny BlueCity sometimes falls under the radar, but it’s actually the third largest city in California and the 10th largest in the United States! Located just about an hour south of San Francisco, San Jose is easy to get to and easy to get around in.

You may not know much about San Jose, but many are very familiar with the home that gave  birth to 21st Century technology, known as Silicon Valley. In fact, San Jose is often referred to as the “Capital of Silicon Valley”. You’ll find no shortage of brainiacs in this town! Speaking of brains, there are some pretty cool activities you can take the whole family to do when you’re visiting San Jose.

The Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum & Planetarium is one fun place to start. If you’re with the kids, the Children’s Discovery Museum and the Children’s Musical Theater San Jose are perfect stops on your tour. Whether you’re with kids or not, if you’re a museum-goer the Winchester Mystery House, The San Jose Museum of Art, and the Macla cover local history, contemporary art and Latin American culture, respectively.

Of course if you’re coming from somewhere cold, why would you want to spend your time indoors when you can enjoy the sunny streets of San Jose? Take a walk through one of the parks or gardens San Jose has to offer. For the families, Happy Hollow Park and Zoo will delight everyone with its part-zoo, part-amusement park setting. Right in the heart of San Jose you’ll find the Japanese Friendship Garden, where you can take a relaxing stroll and feed the friendly coy fish. Other outdoor hot spots include Lake Cunningham Park, Alum Rock Park, Kelley Park and the San Jose Municipal Rose Garden.

And who wouldn’t want to feed some goats at the Emma Prusch Farm Park?

After taking in all that culture, surely you’ll have built up a good appetite. Check out 19

Market for some savory Vietnamese or Amber India for a local favorite Indian joint. Bill’s Cafe is said to be the best diner in the area and California Cafe serves up a tasty brunch.
