TSA agent brings downside of body scanner to surface

In what may be heralded as the very reason why major human rights and religious groups have contested the use of the body scanners in airport security checkpoints, an airport security guard in London made an indecent remark about a woman traveler who accidentally walked through the scanner. The guard made an outlandish and sexually harassing remark, leaving the woman feeling “traumatized” and confirming people’s fears about the potential for misuse the machines pose.

The security guard was issued a warning and the question now remains how the increased use of these machines in airports around the world may violate the privacy and dignity of air travelers.

The machines are supposed to be used for walk-through screening purposes only, but they are designed to have storage and sending capabilities, increasing further the risk of violation.
