Participating in Walk with Us to Cure Lupus

A group of our Long Beach crewmembers recently participated in the sixth annual Los Angeles Walk with Us to Cure Lupus, an event organized by the non-profit organization, the Alliance for Lupus Research. The walk raised funds for education and research on lupus, a disease that affects approximately 1.5 million Americans. Walk with Us takes place in more than 15 U.S. cities and the LGB crew has participated in it every year since it began.

The Alliance for Lupus Research was founded in 1999 by Robert Wood Johnson IV, owner of the New York Jets and a member of the Johnson and Johnson family. His daughter had been diagnosed with lupus, and Johnson was frustrated that not enough attention was placed on lupus research, so, he formed the Alliance to pursue scientific opportunities in the hope of finding a cure.

LGB had the most walkers on their team and raised more than $3,200, helping the event surpass its goal of $125,000; the total amount raised exceeded $140,000.
