#ThrowbackThursday: JetBlue + A Match That Was Mint To Be


It has been five years since JetBlue first announced Mint, and four years since our very first Mint flight. A lot has happened since we took that inaugural flight, and we’re excited that our customers love Mint as much as we had hoped.

There has been so much celebrate when it comes to Mint. Global Traveler says we have the best champagne/sparkling wine on any flight in the country. TripAdvisor has named Mint Best Business Class. We have also recently announced not one, but two new Mint destinations. Get ready to unwind and relax from New York – JFK to Liberia and BOS to St. Lucia. Plus, we’re resuming our seasonal Mint services to St. Maarten.

Every detail has been carefully curated and thought through with the customer in mind. Within the domestic market, we boast the longest fully lie-flat beds up to 6′ 8″ (203cm), private suites with closing doors, and seats up to 22.3″ wide.

All this excitement has us in a #ThrowbackThursday kind of mood as we reflect on how we arrived at the Mint experience we have today.

The opening gambit

In 2013, we announced the introduction of Mint – “the Best Coast-to-Coast Premium Service at an Unbelievably unPremium Price.” The philosophy then was simple – making luxury attainable for customers.

On June 15, 2014, we flew our first Mint flight from JFK to LAX. We knew we were taking a risk – offering a high-end luxury product at a lower price point was different from what other airlines were doing. New York to Los Angeles was the first route we introduced – imagine a long business day and needing a bit of rest and relaxation on a completely lie-flat seat within a private suite, and the exceptional customer service that’s part of every JetBlue experience.

After that inaugural flight, everyone loved Mint. It wasn’t long until we started flying Mint from JFK to SFO, starting in October of 2014. We wanted to offer customers in Boston access to Mint, so by 2015, we launched Mint service from BOS to both LAX and SFO. Customers in different cities saw the value, and Mint’s popularity continued to take off from there.


Spreading the love

By 2016, we caught wind of how customers were eager to fly Mint in even more places. We wanted to help customers start their leisure travels in style, so we explored expanding Mint into the Caribbean. And thus, Mint flights to Barbados and Aruba were born.

The ball was really rolling at this point. Within the next two years, JetBlue brought Mint to more cross-country routes including San Diego, Las Vegas, and Seattle. Next came Mint service to Grenada and Costa Rica for customers who wanted to start their R&R before they arrived at their destinations.


Where we are today

Today, the Mint Experience is available on 18 unique routes based out of 3 of our Focus Cities – New York (JFK), Boston (BOS), and Fort Lauderdale (FLL). We’ve started to spread our roots to some of our favorite destinations, and we aren’t slowing down! We are excited to start flying Mint to Liberia for the first time, and extend the first lie-flat service between Boston and St. Lucia. After all, we’re dedicated to bringing unrivaled value – a new premium experience, with the same unmatched customer service customers have come to expect from us from the very beginning.



What else do we love? Food.

Well, who doesn’t? While customers can expect the same high-quality Mint experience no matter where they are flying, we also sprinkle in a little bit of extra regional flare specific to the route. Small plates style mix-and-match meals developed in partnership with a local NYC restaurant, Saxon and Parole, have been a hit over the years. We love providing customers with choices!

With the expansion of Caribbean flights, we worked even harder to develop route-specific food options. Starting in 2015, Mint started serving regionally inspired meal options, so that Mint customers could dine on a taste of their destination at 30,000 feet. Dishes also rotate monthly, so customers can look forward to a new burst of flavor every time they join us in the cabin.

We’re lucky to have had many great culinary Mint partners in the past – delivering not only the meals, but world-famous dessert treats from cookies to ice cream. Our philosophy is to keep things fresh, and always deliver exciting products to sweeten our customers’ days.

The sweetest part? All of our partnerships are local businesses. From the start, we have believed in supporting the communities that our customers and crewmembers love. Mint has given us the opportunity to tap into the local eateries and companies within our communities, and bring that local experience onboard to share with customers.
