Grand Opening of JetBlue Park Announced!

The Lee County Board of Commissioners and the Boston Red Sox recently announced plans for the opening of JetBlue Park at Fenway South, the team’s new 106-acre Spring Training and Player Development Complex in Lee County, Florida.

The Lee County Board of Commissioners and the Boston Red Sox will host a grand opening celebration on Saturday, February 25 at 11:30 a.m. where they will officially open the ballpark and Spring Training Complex to the public. Executives and crewmembers from the official airline of the Boston Red Sox (yours truly), will also be on hand to help officially open JetBlue Park. The grand opening ceremony will be followed by an open house from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., open to all fans.

During the open house, fans will have an opportunity to walk freely around JetBlue Park and enjoy concessions and entertainment on Fenway South Drive – a street festival reminiscent of Yawkey Way in Boston. Much like at Fenway Park in Boston, the street will have entertainment including, face painting, magicians, stilt walkers, a bounce house, obstacle course, and other games for children. As well, to help support Florida’s Blood Center, a blood drive will be taking place during the open house for those who are able to make a blood donation.

February 25 also marks the date of the first full squad workout of the 2012 Red Sox team. Fans will have an opportunity to walk around the practice fields of Fenway South in addition to JetBlue Park where, for the first time, both major and minor league teams will train together at a single complex.

Other key dates this Spring Training season include:

  • Sunday, February 19: Pitchers and catchers report – the Player Development Complex will be open to the public free of charge.
  • Saturday, February 25: First full squad workout, opening celebration, and free open house.
  • Saturday, March 3: First college exhibition games featuring Northeastern University at 2:35 p.m., followed by Boston College at 7:05 p.m.
  • Sunday, March 4 - First official Grapefruit League Game matching the Red Sox and Minnesota Twins at 1:35 p.m.

Our Newest Partner: Japan Airlines!

We’re excited to expand our partnership network with the addition of Japan Airlines!

Effective immediately, customers may book tickets for combined travel on JetBlue and Japan Airlines through JAL’s gateways at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK). Customers may book their connecting travel by calling Japan Airlines or by contacting their preferred travel agent.

JAL offers twice-daily nonstop service from both LAX and JFK to the carrier’s hub at Tokyo’s Narita International Airport, where travellers may connect onward to most major cities in Asia including Bangkok, Beijing, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Seoul, Shanghai, and Taipei.

From New York, JetBlue offers easy connections between JAL-operated flights and cities up and down the United States’ East Coast including Buffalo/Niagara Falls, Charlotte, Raleigh-Durham, and cities throughout Florida. From Los Angeles, JetBlue and JAL will offer connecting service to Boston, New York, and Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Boston – Asia service to begin in April
The Japanese carrier plans to begin nonstop service between Tokyo-Narita and our Boston focus city later this year – an exciting new route that marks the commercial debut of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner in the U.S. market – making Boston the third connecting point between JetBlue and JAL. The new service between Boston and Tokyo, operated by JAL as part of its transpacific joint business agreement with American Airlines, will be the only nonstop link from New England to Asia.

With a mid-day arrival and departure time, JAL’s new service is perfectly timed for onward connections with JetBlue to destinations throughout the Northeast and Florida.

Sizzlin’ Seasonal Service: Boston To Nantucket!

We’re making peak season travel to Massachusetts’ beloved island playground even easier with the launch of a convenient daily full-size jet service from Boston’s Logan International Airport (BOS) to Nantucket Memorial Airport (ACK) beginning May 17, 2012 through September 4. The island will be our 45th destination served nonstop from Logan (we begin service to our 44th destination, Dallas/Ft. Worth, on May 1, 2012).

To celebrate the new service, flights are on sale today through March 12 at www.jetblue.com/new for an all-in fare of $49 one-way for travel between May 17 and June 13, 2012 (blackout dates May 24 through May 29). Easy connections via Boston to Nantucket can also be made from other cities including Buffalo, Fort Lauderdale New York’s JFK, Orlando, Raleigh/Durham, San Francisco, San Juan, Tampa, Washington, D.C. (DCA) and West Palm Beach. We also serve the island nonstop seasonally from New York’s JFK with two daily flights.

Since launching service in Boston in 2004, we’ve added an average of five new destinations per year, and now serves the most cities in Logan’s entire history as an airport. We celebrated a milestone with 100 daily flights in 2011. In addition to this new seasonal nonstop service on JetBlue to Nantucket from Boston, year-round access to Nantucket and other Cape and Islands destinations will continue through our partnership with Massachusetts-based airline Cape Air.

JetBlue’s 605 Wears Red Sox Colors!

Check out our new uniform!

As Boston’s largest carrier and Official Airline sponsor of the Boston Red Sox, today we turned our blue livery grey to honor the classic Red Sox road uniform on a specially painted Airbus A320 aircraft with a unique Red Sox design at Boston’s Logan Airport.

The newly branded aircraft was revealed by our Senior Vice President of Marketing and Commercial Strategy, Marty St. George, and Boston’s Mayor Thomas M. Menino, together with Larry Luccino, Red Sox President/CEO; Sam Kennedy, Red Sox EVP/COO; Bobby Valentine, Red Sox Manager; Wally the Green Monster; and hundreds of our crewmembers. The aircraft enters service today and will surge the skies solidifying our status as Boston’s favorite airline!

JetBlue Park: Countdown To Game Day!

We’re only weeks away from the grand opening of JetBlue Park in Fort Myers. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place on Saturday, Feb. 25, only days before the park’s first game on March 3 – a double header between the Red Sox and Northeastern, followed by Boston College. The first regular season Major League Baseball game will be March 4 against the Minnesota Twins.

A Hawaiian Luau At T5!

We had all-out luau at our home base T5 at JFK this morning (minus the pig spit)! Following our partnership announcement with Hawaiian Airlines, we celebrated with our new partners, fellow crewmembers and customers. The entertainment included hula dancers, ukeleles, a fashion show highlighting our partner’s 80-year history of sharp uniforms, and our CEO Dave (as well as our partner CEO Mark) in Hawaiian shirts and leis. Aloha! Our New Partner: Hawaiian Airlines!

We’re pleased to announce a new interline partnership with Hawaiian Airlines, bringing the beauty of the Aloha State within easy reach of major East Coast markets with new connecting service. We’ll be hosting some fun and merriment to celebrate this momentous occasion at our terminal (T5) at JFK today, so stay tuned for an event recap!

Effective this week, customers can purchase single tickets combining travel on both Hawaiian and JetBlue, allowing for seamless travel between both networks. Connections are available for immediate travel via Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), where Hawaiian offers multiple daily departures.

What’s more, we’ll expand our partnership on June 4, when Hawaiian Airlines flies into New York City with the only nonstop service between Honolulu International Airport and John F. Kennedy International Airport aboard its new Airbus A330 widebody aircraft.

New travel options for TrueBlue and HawaiianMiles members

With the launch of this new partnership, members of both frequent flier programs will now be able to earn and redeem loyalty points for travel on either carrier. For example, our TrueBlue members will be able to accrue points on any Hawaiian-operated flight, while HawaiianMiles members will be able to earn miles on any JetBlue-operated flights. Similarly, frequent fliers will be able to redeem their points or miles for travel on either carrier’s network, bringing new, much-requested destinations to our respective loyal members.

Unpacked: Business Partners

Welcome back to our fourth edition of Unpacked, where we demystify hot topics in the airline industry. This time around we’re going to peel back the layers of our workforce to explain how we work with business partners to keep our airline flying.

In addition to our 14,000 crewmembers that work on our reservations lines (most of whom work from home!), in-flight, at our airports and at our headquarters, we rely on business partners for a number of different services to ensure that our day-to-day operations run smoothly and that we provide the best possible customer experience.

All of the people you meet at New York’s JFK airport, our home base of operations, who greet you as you enter the building, check you in, collect your boarding pass at the gate, transport your checked bag (first bag always flies free!) to and from the plane, and maintain our aircraft (our airport, ground and technical operations crewmembers, respectively) are employed directly by JetBlue. At JFK, we work with business partners for our concessions (AKA, all of the great shops and restaurants you can take advantage of before or after your flight), fueling and deicing our aircraft, curbside baggage check-in, and a security company to help with everything from managing the ebb and flow of customer traffic to escorting celebrities (when we have our Live From T5 Concert Series). Of course, we also work closely with the TSA for security checkpoint staffing, the airports that we operate out of, and the local Port Authorities.

At other stations, particularly smaller ones like Bogotá, Colombia or San José, Costa Rica, where we have a limited number of daily flights, we also work with business partners to handle much of the customer experience, including staffing the ticketing counters, baggage handling. With these and all partners, we always make sure that anyone we’re joining forces with are a cultural fit for JetBlue and that we all share the same ethos; providing the best and safest experience, whether product or service, for our customers.

Airline interline agreements are another piece of the partnership puzzle. We’ve partnered with a growing list of some pretty fabulous airlines including Aer Lingus, American Airlines, Cape Air, El Al, Emirates, Icelandair, Jet Airways, LAN,  Lufthansa, Qatar, Singapore Airlines, South African Airways, TAM, and Virgin Atlantic. These strategic alliances allow our customers to seamlessly connect from points across the JetBlue network to cities in every corner of the globe. We don’t fly to Tokyo, but a number of our partner airlines do, and entering into interline agreements allows us to help our customers get from point A to point Beirut.

A big part of success is not just in knowing what you do well, but in being able to identify what others do better. That’s why we’ve partnered with companies like American Express, Verizon, DIRECTV®,SiriusXM Radio®, ViaSat, and plenty of others to strengthen our infrastructure and to bring customers the very best in product and service offerings. We’re just not going to make a better cookie than Linden; that’s why we do the flying and leave the baking to them (same goes for all of our other tasty onboard snack options)!
