We’re suckers for a good love story.
When we learned that frequent JetBlue flier Adam wanted to propose to his girlfriend of five years, Taryn, onboard our flight from San Francisco to Long Beach, California, we were up for the challenge.
Our Airport Operations crewmembers Joel and Mele, based at San Francisco, first received the request and decided it would be cool to do something above and beyond for this adorable couple. Adam asked that we play the below video proposal onboard Flight 1437 from the Bay Area where the couple lives, to Long Beach to celebrate Adam’s birthday.
Joel reached out to some of our other teams at JetBlue to see how we might accommodate the request and the excitement spread. In total, eight teams including Airports, Inflight, Product Development, Marketing, and our partners at LiveTV came together to create an extra special high-flying moment. It’s wasn’t easy, but we love a good challenge in the name of love. And we’ve got TVs at every seat and we’re not afraid to use them.
28 minutes into the flight, the surprise video aired on all TVs on our plane, and a very surprised and happy Taryn, accepted Adam’s proposal. The newly engaged couple and all customers onboard Flight 1437 were greeted with warm reception from our Long Beach crew upon arrival, including decorations and a delicious cake to celebrate the news.
In a note to our team upon touchdown, Adam wrote, “You are absolutely awesome! I almost cried in front of everyone… no joke. I am forever grateful to you and the JetBlue team, and a forever loyal die-hard JetBlue customer.”
As an added bonus, it turns out that Tom, our General Manager in Long Beach, who came along for the flight, also happens to be an ordained minister (though he refrained from offering up his services inflight, as he agreed the couple likely had enough excitement for one day).
We’re pleased to serve as host to the highest proposal possible, and to send the couple on their honeymoon to celebrate tying the knot. Congrats Adam and Taryn!
