Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) is currently operating on one runway as it begins a 15-month long renovation project to expand the south runway for future growth at the airport.
As one of the busiest U.S. airports to operate with a single runway and as we enter summer thunderstorm season, we can expect challenges to our operations in Fort Lauderdale. Our Air Traffic Systems team is working with a cross-functional team that includes Airports and Corporate Real Estate to ensure we have contingency plans for a variety of situations in place.
The temporary runway closure could mean that we’ll see additional delays and diversions when the weather is less than ideal. Be sure to check your flight status before heading to the airport whether you’re flying out of or into Fort Lauderdale, and stay tuned for more about the runway project and our growth plans in Fort Lauderdale.
Check out the FLL runway webcam, which takes a picture of the construction project every 15 minutes from different locations.
