Meet the New Long Beach Airport

Long Beach has new digs. For more than two years, construction has been underway on a brand new terminal attached to the landmark terminal, and today, we’ll cut the ribbon to reveal Phase 1 of the Long Beach Airport modernization project before officially opening for business on 12-12-12.

The new terminal will house two concourses, and we’ll be occupying the north concourse, which is the larger of the two; our airline is the only occupant here, operating out of gates 5-11. Our General Manager Tom drew a parallel between the big reveal and Christmas morning, noting that  seeing the new space is similar to eagerly waiting to open your Christmas presents as a child.

Our history at Long Beach

While not our first West Coast city (that would be Ontario, CA, which we served from July 2000 until September 2008) LGB is still the second oldest BlueCity in the region, right behind Oakland. We started small in Long Beach, with one daily flight to JFK, but by the end of 2002, we were serving IAD, LAS, OAK, and SLC. Today, we operate 32 flights per day to 12 destinations, including our seasonal service to Anchorage. This year, approximately 2.5 million customers are expected to pass through our Long Beach focus city.

Phase 2 of LGB’s improvements are expected to be completed by next summer, and will include a new checkpoint and baggage claim area. Stay tuned for updates!
