Today we honor our veterans, the men and women who put their lives on the line to defend our freedom and protect our nation abroad and at home. They are fellow crewmembers, customers, family members and friends.
The 100,000 Jobs Mission is a coalition of nearly 70 companies committed to help service members, other veterans and their spouses transition after military service. We have joined the coalition, which allows us to contribute to the coalition’s goal of hiring 100,000 transitioning service members and military veterans by 2020. Progress is being made; since the coalition’s launch in March 2011, more than 28,000 veterans have been hired.
Our talent acquisition team has focused on several initiatives to hire veterans this year. In March, we participated in the Veterans Career Fair held on theUSS Intrepid in New York, and this Thursday we will host our first Veterans Career Fair, opening our doors for 200 veterans to learn about JetBlue and what it means to be a JetBlue crewmember. In addition, we have created VetConnect as part of our Vets in Blue veterans’ initiative, a peer mentoring program for newly hired veteran crewmembers, our way to help these crewmembers transition from military service into life at JetBlue.
