Aviation High School Students Earn Their Wings

Surrounded by aviation memorabilia and aircraft, including a 50-year old Cessna restored by students in a single year to perfect working order, 380 seniors graduated from Aviation High School in Queens, New York on Tuesday evening in the school’s hangar.

Aviation High School is located in Long Island City, less than one mile from our new offices. Hundreds of JetBlue crewmembers across the airline credit Aviation High School with giving them their start in the industry, a fact that’s not surprising given the school’s 76-year history.

Dave, our CEO, who was nominated as Aviation High School’s Person of the Year, gave the commencement address to students, family, faculty, staff and honored guests. He highlighted leadership and citizenship, encouraging the students to pursue excellence in everything they do. It’s also fitting that Dave is the school’s PENCIL partner through the organization’s program that links private business leaders with public schools across New York City.
