Our Maintenance Controller Sergio recently brought his expertise to Thomas Edison High School by serving as a judge for an aircraft maintenance contest. Maintenance was one of the many trades being assessed in SkillsUSA’s conference and competition, a nonprofit organization that fosters the education of students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations. Its mission is to create a skilled workforce for America, and there are 13,000 school chapters—including Thomas Edison High School.
A major component of being a school chapter is the competition, where students demonstrate the skills they have learned. In addition to aviation maintenance, categories assessed include advertising design, auto maintenance, plumbing, and more. Sergio, along with a Delta maintenance representative, judged the students as they demonstrated troubleshooting an electrical board, safety wiring hardware, and taking precision measurements.
