Spread Holiday Cheer Challenge: Ponce, Puerto Rico

Earlier this month, we asked our crewmembers to submit their stories about memorable volunteer experiences. In the spirit of giving, we share some of these stories with you.

Donating Tickets To Help a Child in Need

Our Ponce, Puerto Rico crewmembers recently came together to organize their second annual Christmas for Kids event to help kids with cancer. In collaboration with the Go-Gogo Foundation, our crewmembers reached out to local business for support in making the event a success. Christmas for Kids was held at the Ponce Hilton Convention Center and attended by 45 young cancer patients. Thanks to our crewmembers’ gift collection, the children were able to receive many presents and surprises throughout the day, one of which included JetBlue swag.

A local celebrity even stopped by the event! Javierito, one of the youngest Mexican comedians, and cast member of “Pequeños Gigantes” (“Little Giants”)—a popular children’s TV show—posed for pictures with the kids.

When one child came to the stage to receive his gift bag, he found two JetBlue tickets from Ponce (PSE) to JFK inside. After our crewmembers Alberto and Roberto had learned that the boy needed to receive his cancer treatment in New York by a certain date, they donated two tickets they had previously won to get him there in time. This kind gesture brought the boy’s grandmother to tears – she couldn’t stop thanking the team for putting together such a great event and for helping her son receive the treatment he needs.
