Spread Holiday Cheer Challenge: Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Earlier this month, we asked our crewmembers to submit their stories about memorable volunteer experiences. In the spirit of giving, we share some of these stories with you.

Fort Lauderdale Crewmembers Bring Holiday Cheer to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital

Our Fort Lauderdale crewmembers brought JetBlue’s “caring” value and a does of holiday cheer to the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital last Monday.  The team was led by Santa Claus (played by our crewmember Avery), two helpful elves (Melissa and Diana) and a few more recruits in plain clothes.  The crew enjoyed arts and crafts time with the children of Ward 3 that ranged in ages from 2-14.   The looks of joy on their little faces when Santa showed up unexpectedly was priceless! The excitement continued as Santa passed out coloring books, crayons, tic tac toe boards and playing cards to more than 20 kids. The evening was filled with joy and laughter as the kids sat on Santa’s lap and told him what they really wanted for Christmas.  Many of the children have been in the hospital for months, and some were frequent short-term visitors.  Many of them wished to just be able to go home.
