For the eight straight year, cycling fans everywhere are invited to join us this July to view continuous, live coverage of the 2011 Tour de France in-flight. We’re also waiving our $50 bike fee for Customers traveling throughout the month of July.

Beginning Saturday, July 2 at 8 a.m. ET at the grand start from the Passage du Gois in France, the most grueling event in all of sports will air live on VERSUS and on channel 37 of our personal seatback televisions. Don’t worry, you can still opt to watch any of our 36 other channels of DIRECTV if cycling isn’t your cup of tea.

In addition to our home town of New York City, we jet to some of the biggest cycling cities in the country, including: Austin, Texas; Chicago, Ill.; Denver, Colo.; Portland, Ore.; Richmond, Va.; Rochester, N.Y.; San Diego, Calif.; San Francisco, Calif.; and Seattle, Wash..

So go ahead and get your bike on, for free!

I ride a Schwinn trike. Is the offer the same for me?

Since when do you serve Denver?

It was flattering that you used my photo (a black-and-white of myself on a Schwinn bicycle, many years ago). It would have been nicer if you had used my Flickr name, Roger4336, or even my real name, instead of that set of meaningless numbers.

Hi Roger! Thanks for writing in. My apologies about not including your full name – we generally credit that portion of the URL that tends to the the Flickr user name. I’ve changed the photo credit to properly reflect your name. What a great photo! Thanks for allowing us to use it!

Except it’s not really “free” if you also want to check a bag of luggage, it seems. Normally, JB doesn’t charge for the first bag of luggage (which is a great policy). And normally if you want to check a suitcase and a bicycle, you’d pay a $50 fee for the bike but nothing for the suitcase. But with this promotion, you pay nothing for the bike, but pay $35 for the suitcase since it is now a second checked bag. So net savings is $15. Of course, if you can fit everything into a carry-on, they you’ll save the whole $50. Though the website says the bicycle container can weigh up to 99 lbs, so maybe you’re supposed to fill it up with the rest of your belongings?

I agree with the luggage deal, but found this post very helpful, thanks again
