Today at the Paris Air Show we made a major fleet announcement that included a new order for 40 A320neo aircraft and the conversion of 30 A320 orders to larger A321 jets. The new aircraft will help us continue to grow in New York and Boston, where we’re the largest carrier out of JFK and BOS, and in the Caribbean and Latin America.
While we know investors and aviation geeks LOVE this kind of news, why should everyone else care? The A321 has higher capacity and is more fuel efficient so that means you’ll be able to get your whole family on board to that vacation destination while we’re able to pass our fuel cost savings on to the customer. Plus, it means brand new planes. And who doesn’t love the smell of new plane?
In addition to our A320 fleet adjustments, we’ll optimize our Embraer 190 fleet to approximately 75 aircraft. In addition to restructuring our Airbus fleet, we’ve placed an incremental order of 40 A320neo (new engine option) aircraft for delivery after our current A320 family order. We’ve not yet selected an engine provider for this order. Fuel savings associated with the A320neo is forecast to be approximately 15 percent.
Did you know… JetBlue operates the most fuel-efficient fleet in the world, and with these actions will further enhance fuel efficiency:
- A320 family deliveries after 2013 will come with winglets, improving fuel efficiency
- Current A320 aircraft will be retrofit with winglets
