This Friday, February 18 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., we’ll host a canned food drive in Duffy Square in the heart of Manhattan to benefit Move for Hunger and long-standing charitable partner DoSomething.org, the leading organization for teens and social change in the U.S.
Volunteer Crewmembers from our metro airport locations will be on-site to lift up “Light Hearted,” the 2011 Times Square Valentine, while collecting non-perishable canned foods to support the needs of these local organizations.
In exchange for a donation of two cans or more, we will also provide a unique promotional code for $15 off each way on the purchase of a roundtrip flight from New York to any destination in the JetBlue network. The offer is limited to one per person. JetBlue Crewmembers will also be on hand to give out some surprise and delight giveaways to a few lucky contributors including some JetBlue gear and a few JetBlue tickets.
The Times Square Valentine is an annual competition for architects to design and build a heart for display in Times Square in February to celebrate Valentine’s Day. This year’s winning design, unveiled last week by the Times Square Alliance and funded in part by JetBlue, is “Light Hearted,” created by Lauren Crahan and John Hartmann of Brooklyn-based Freecell studio. A drawing of the 10-ft heart is available online at www.timessquarenyc.org/arts.
Starting Feb. 10, groups of four to six volunteers at a time have held the heart up on display for up to 15 minutes at a time in Duffy Square in New York City’s Times Square. The exhibit lasts through February 20th. Volunteers to hold up the heart can register online at www.timessquarenyc.org/valentine.
