Tuesday’s Travel Tips – St. Maarten

This week’s Tuesday’s Travel Tips takes us to St. Maarten. Nestled in the northeast Caribbean, St. Maarten is a charming, luscious island that is half-Dutch and half-French controlled. Both are beautiful. Known for its tropical climate, gourmet restaurants, vibrant nightlife, and pristine beaches, St. Maarten is the impeccable vacation destination.

The Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM) in St. Maarten is famous (or perhaps infamous) for its proximity to the beach.  That means you can arrive on the island and hop over to Maho Beach in a matter of seconds, but it also means that you have to be careful when you’re hanging out in the surf because arriving planes can be so close to the ground that they create winds known to blow sunbathers into the water!

With good food and entertainment (and incredibly close views of planes taking off and landing), the Sunset Bar & Grill is a must-do on your St. Maarten adventure because, “there is no place on this planet where non-airline or airport personal can get that close to a flying airliner.” With more than 365 places to eat on St. Maarten, where will you be eating next?

After you’ve had your fill basking on the beaches and dining in the delicious restaurants, JetBlue’s Director of Risk Management Lee recommends surfing (including lessons for those that need them) at the Quicksilver Camp on Butterfly Beach. The “advanced” course on the zip line was also great! It was about two hours of climbing trees, zip lining and walking across ladder and rope bridges.
