And the Blue Pic(K) Winner is…!

"Edge of the World" by Peter Fuentes

About the photographer and the image:

My image, “Edge of the World” was shot at Two Lights State Park in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. I wanted to shoot the twin lighthouses, but it turns out that they are now privately owned and not accessible to the public (even more so if you show up at 6:00AM). So I drove towards the coast and walked out to the breakers and played around with some sunrise images. The water was unusually calm so almost went home empty handed, but I decided to tough it out and start playing with composition. That’s how this image was created. In retrospect I wish I would have used my 10.5mm fisheye to exaggerate the curve. But without a polarizer, I don’t think I would have captured the colors as they were. The image was shot with my long-gone Nikon D90 with a 24mm lens at F2.8 1/250.

My name is Peter Fuentes. I am a former graphic designer, now I’m just a victim of the new economy. It’s funny how sometimes you get what you want even when you didn’t know it was what you wanted. I’ve taken this opportunity to try to reinvent myself and to dedicate time to my two leading ladies – Heather, my wife and Rowynn my daughter. I have recently launched my website www.studiofuentes.com. It’s about 3 weeks old and I’ve been working on trying to build a customer base. I enjoy shooting landscape and nature, but my real passion is shooting people.
For now I may have to stick to landscapes as people hole themselves up for the winter.

To offset my rather lax shooting schedule, I’ve decided to start a blog titled Elements and Artifacts which should have it’s first real post next week. I’ve been putting that off for some time because baby number two is on the way. We don’t know the sex, we like to wait. Rowynn was almost a Christmas baby and we waited to find out what she was until she was born. It’s a great surprise, especially at this time of year. In closing, I would like to thank everyone that voted for my photograph.

If you’d like your pic to be included please email it to corpcommphotos@jetblue.com and make sure to include your name and where you snapped it. Thanks for stopping by!
