Something old, Something new, Something borrowed, Something JetBlue?

T5 has held some fantastic events, but a recent one in particular was especially fabulous. We certainly felt the love, as a perfectly-matched pair decided that our digs best represented their commitment to one another.

Ryan Benson and Danielle ‘Dani’ Plumer were childhood friends. Ryan’s family moved away when he was 11 and three years ago they reconnected through mutual friends. However, there was still distance between them; Ryan lived in Florida and Dani lived in Manhattan. What’s the best form of transportation to keep a long distance relationship going? JetBlue of course!

The couple traveled back and forth on JetBlue every weekend for a year. We have Dani to thank for bringing Ryan on board JetBlue from another airline! Now with both of them living in Florida, they continue to use JetBlue to visit friends and family. “We live in Florida, we will ALWAYS jet on JetBlue. We even take JetBlue to California (Long Beach). Our puppy Essa also LOVES JetBlue. It’s all in the family.”

Ryan and Dani are now engaged. Here’s Ryan’s side:

I proposed at the Ritz Carlton in Orlando. I got the presidential suite for the weekend. I played golf in the morning with my father and her father. I returned to the hotel and asked Dani “to take a walk”. We walked by the lake and I told her how much I love her, and how I want to be with her for the rest of my life. I told her I want her to be the mother of my children and then I got down on one knee and asked her to marry me. She said “ARE YOU SERIOUS?!, ARE YOU SERIOUS?”… and then said YES!

Believe it or not, even with all of this air travel, Dani is not the best flyer. After a great experience with one of our pilots, a lot of those nervous nerves were derailed. Ryan first met Captain Richard Hirst on a flight from PBI to JFK and again with Dani on the return flight from JFK to PBI. Captain Hirst provided them with the JetBlue experience and left a lasting impression. Below is an excerpt from an email Ryan wrote to Captain Hirst to thank him for a great flight:

My fiancé is not a good flyer, but we fly all the time, back  and forth to New York and Florida. When I returned to NY, I told her all about you (we actually were in a long distance relationship for over a year, she lived in NY and I live in Florida). We flew back and forth on JetBlue at least 3 times a month from NY to Florida. JetBlue has become a VERY special part of our relationship!

When Dani and I got to the terminal, and I saw you were our pilot for the flight back to Florida, I thought it was awesome. I brought Dani over to meet you. You were so nice, we spoke for a while, and you came over to her during boarding, spoke to her, and even took a picture of her. This meant so much to her. We can’t thank you enough! You gave us your email address after the flight which was another very nice thing.

The email concluded with a new request for JetBlue. The couple is getting married on June 26 and were interested in having engagement pictures taken in T5 or on an aircraft. We agreed and hit the ground running trying to provide a great experience for these loyal Customers!

On May 26, the couple, along with their Photographer Rebecca Weiss and Videographer Davitte Taveres, arrived at T5 ready for a day of pictures. And no event at T5 is complete without a few surprises.

Once the couple went through security, T5 was their canvas. After a few pictures in the marketplace, surprise number 1 arrived – Captain Hirst! With their priceless reaction, Ryan and Dani thought it was just a coincidence that he had been in the terminal that day and were so honored to hear that he had flown in just for the occasion. The timing of his arrival was perfect and we let them know about surprise number 2 – that we had an aircraft waiting just for them! Along with Captain Hirst, we all headed to Gate 11 and boarded for an A320 photo shoot. After a few more fabulous pictures by Rebecca, their third surprise was around the corner – champagne and strawberries in the VIP lounge and a JetBlue bag filled with goodies!

At one point we heard Dani say “Are we really here? Pinch me!” and, “How do we even explain this day to anyone?” The couple were so excited and appreciative, and were all smiles all day long. We at JetBlue love seeing smiles on our Customers’ faces!

Congratulations Ryan and Dani, on your upcoming wedding. We want to hear all about it!
