Welcome to Queens. Please stay awhile

A recent article in the NY Times talks about the saucy history of Queens Plaza, the emerging neighborhood at the foothills of the 59th Street Bridge in Queens, New York. The area has a rough history, with industrial factories, public housing, and the transplanted sex industry that Giuliani kicked out of Times Square.

More recently, rezoning has allowed developers to build high-end condos which has been attracting increasing numbers of Manhattanites and others from around the city. Though the area is lacking in retail, the city has funneled money into creating a real plaza in Queens Plaza and should help to create a more neighborhood feel.

JetBlue will be relocating its headquarters to the area in 2012.
