In a strange, yet legitimate illegitimacy, Air New Zealand was caught racial alcoholizing by listing Tongans in their flight attendant manuals as customers that would “drink the bar dry”. The airline-generally known for its edgy and contemporary branding- claimed that the language was outmoded and that they were updating their manual so that it would not include “alcohol or cultural components.” They apologized for the insensitivity.

Tongans were outraged at the news  and Community leader Melino Maka said the airline’s wording was “extremely hurtful”.

The original manual was written in 2008.
