Party in the ‘port – 4:47 p.m.

This is, by far, the the most fun I’ve ever seen people having in an airport. Not to mention a rare fresh-guacamole-in-New York sighting, which will soon be a common sight in our new terminal thanks to restaurant Revolucion.

It’s finally time!- 3:50 p.m.

All the guests, Crewmembers and dignitaries are inside T5. You can now start to get a feel for what it will be like once we’re officially open for business; and it’s still surprisingly open feeling. So far my favorite places are Revolution (the Mexican restaurant–great guacamole!) and the Moroso Lounge (a hip Italian-designed hangout–great landings […]

T5 Passport Control – 3:30 p.m.

Psych! There really isn’t passport control here at T5 — international flights that don’t clear Customs in their origin (SDQ, STI, POP, SXM, CUN) will continue to arrive at T4 — but today we do have passport control set up in the Marketplace as part of the “Taste of T5″ expo. Guests can pick up […]

Clap Your Hands – 2:45 p.m.

So many speakers, dignitaries, officers, and VIPs that I can’t even keep track of how many times I clapped. There is a hum in the air here (I think it’s people ready for the entertainment). Below: JetBlue CEO Dave Barger, Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Premier of Bermuda Ewart Brown, and Queens Borough President Helen Marshall. There […]

Standing Room Only – 2:02 p.m.

I’m here in a room filled with Crewmembers. I mean, really full. Then there’s media, security, cameras– it’s nuts. And here I am foregoing conversation to talk with you. I can tell you that we are packed in here (standing room only). Looks like the show is starting now. More to come.

Press Conference – 1:50 p.m.

Checking in at the press conference and it’s been great seeing Crewmembers from all over that we always email but hardly ever see— friends from HOU, PHX, LGB, FLL, OSC, AUS, SFO, HPN, FLL, ORD, SWF, SSC and even other floors in FSC. We really should do these more often! Oh, by the way, I […]

Key to our new home – 1:30 p.m.

The ceremonial key to T5 is making the rounds. (Fortunately, those of us with SIDA badges have something smaller when we need to access the terminal’s secure nooks and crannies.) I love the feeling of ownership and completion that you get holding something as simple as a key. It is inspiring – I hope everyone […]

Burgertime is over, more fun to come – 1:20 p.m.

Crewmembers are fed and we’re getting ready for the press conference. Our super-secret musical guest is “backstage” rehearsing in The Marketplace and another special guest — Mayor Bloomberg just walked by! In case it hasn’t sunk in yet, T5 is a big deal. Air Force One was even at JFK earlier. While I haven’t seen […]
