Ft. Myers and the Brotherhood Ride Honors Emergency Responders

We’re the proud sponsor of the 2011 Brotherhood Ride — an annual cycling event that pays tribute to emergency responders who died in the line of duty. This year, in honor of the 10th anniversary of September 11, the Ride will travel to New York City’s Ground Zero, cycling 1,600 miles over 22 days.

The ride kicked off in Naples, Florida on August 20 and our Ft. Myers Crewmembers have been actively involved in raising funds and spreading awareness.

With support from our SYR, SRQ and the JFK maintenance teams, Ft. Myers has organized bake sales, sandwich sales and raffle ticket drawings. Turns out, the teamwork paid off. In just under two months, an impressive $5K was raised, which will be donated to both the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and Concerns of Police Survivors. But that’s not all. During the fundraising efforts, Crewmembers and cyclers bonded over the cause and now consider each other all members of the JetBlue Ft. Meyers family.

Plans are in motion for Ft. Myers Crewmembers to host a Welcome Home party once the riders return to Florida on a JetBlue flight. The party will celebrate the new friendships forged, the success of the Brotherhood Ride and of course, memories of the 411 fallen emergency service workers of 9/11.
