I’m Joanna Geraghty, President and Chief Operating Officer of JetBlue.
The coronavirus pandemic has had a significant impact on our country and our economy. Many of you have been told to stay home, with your businesses impacted and schools closed for the foreseeable future. The coronavirus has also had a significant impact on the airline industry. At JetBlue, not only are we now operating at flight levels similar to what we flew in 2005, but our signature JetBlue service has been adjusted to focus on social distancing in the cabin, cleanliness across our facilities and aircraft, and taking care of one another and our customers, as only JetBlue people can do during these uncertain times.
Although we have significantly reduced our flight schedule, what has not changed is our ongoing commitment to fly customers who must fly to their destinations. For our customers with critical, must-fly travel, we are 100% committed to continuing to operate and we are 100% committed to ensuring we operate with a focus on our crewmembers’ and our customers’ safety.
Our mission of Inspiring Humanity is stronger now more than ever. As many of you know, First Responders have been at the heart of JetBlue since our very first days. We are blessed to have many retired police officers, firefighters, EMTs, nurses and military personnel actively employed across our company. We know the very substance of which you are made. And for any of you who are drawn to help or serve your communities in which we live, we applaud you. Today, we announced that we will provide leave to any JetBlue crewmember who is a First Responder. And will suspend all normal leave policies for any JetBlue First Responder supporting the COVID-19 effort. As we recover, we look forward to finding an appropriate way to recognize all of our JetBlue First Responders for their heroic efforts during this time.
Building and supporting community and youth not only continues, but they continue unabated.
We are working with multiple not-for-profit partners including Red Cross and Doctors Without Borders to bring medical professionals and much-needed supplies to the places where they are needed most. Likewise, we are providing flights to otherwise stranded students who need to get home.

With school districts across the U.S. closed, we know that parents and teachers are looking for options to keep students engaged in learning. Our education partners from both the JetBlue Foundation and our award-winning Soar with Reading initiative have provided free tools and tips in the areas of STEM and literacy. Across this industry, air travel has been disrupted unlike anything we have ever seen.
We continue to update our ‘Book with Confidence’ travel waiver program for both new and existing bookings. Please visit our blog at jetblue.com for more information. We are also pleased to announce that we are extending the redemption period for travel bank credits. If your travel bank credit is set to expire between February 27th and May 31st of 2020, we will be extending these credits until December 31st, 2020. For anyone who was issued a travel credit between February 27th and May 31st of 2020, these credits will now have an 18-month expiration period from the date of issuance, as opposed to our normal 12-month expiration period.
Trusting JetBlue now and in the future is not an empty exercise. We know that. And please know this – we will never underestimate or take for granted the trust you show in us every time you pull that lever in favor of our airline.
