A message to JetBlue Crewmembers from Robin Hayes & Joanna Geraghty on standing together against racism

Dear Crewmembers –

Our mission is to Inspire Humanity and we have a long history of using our voice to unite Crewmembers, Customers and the communities we serve during difficult times. By speaking and acting in line with our mission and values, we try to make change in ways that only JetBlue can and is authentic to us.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve seen how our mission is more essential than ever – one way we can make it real is to help ensure that Black people are valued and racism is eradicated. The tragic and unnecessary deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and others have ignited a difficult conversation on systemic racial inequality and the continuous, historic disadvantages people of color face. The civil outcry around racial inequality offers us another opportunity to use our platform for good. We, along with all corporations, play an important role in fighting against these injustices and reducing barriers.

The unfortunate truth is that many of our Black Crewmembers and other Crewmembers of color are personally faced with inequalities in their lives every single day. We must own where we are falling short to support them. Over the weekend, we have been engaging with our Diversity & Inclusion team as well as our JADE Crewmember Resource Group (JetBlue African Diaspora Experience) to help us chart a path forward. We won’t stay silent.

In the next few days, we will work with JADE to convene virtual discussions to talk about these issues. Look for details on HelloJetBlue soon. We are a diverse team of thousands from different backgrounds, and we want to hear your voices and ideas.

In addition to facilitating more dialogue, we will accelerate our plan to support people of color in our business by continuing our concerted effort for leadership diversity; reviewing our Crewmember and Crewleader training modules for cultural sensitivity; supporting leadership development for diverse Crewmembers; identifying opportunities to reshape our Crewmember policies and talent processes to reduce bias and to demonstrate inclusivity; expanding opportunities for minority and women-owned Business Partners; and, through the JetBlue Foundation, investing in students from underrepresented communities to reduce the barriers to entry and create educational and employment opportunities across our industry.

Real change starts through honest conversation among people from different backgrounds and perspectives and continues through actions that can make a better future, community, and world for all.
