American now charging for non-passengers

In a poke at airlines for recent increases in fees (most notably the highly-charged decision to charge for carry-on luggage at Spirit Airlines) The Onion ran a humorous piece about how American Airlines is adding a fee for non-passengers.

The article relayed that the airline will charge a “$25 tax on citizens traveling with any other airline, as well as a mandatory $30 surcharge for passengers who decide to just stay home for the holidays instead.”

The article also says the airline will charge for people who ride Greyhound, drive in their cars, or even just for having a social security number.

As an airline that can take and dole out a joke, we find this parody filled with humor and relevant doses of irony. What will airlines charge for next, to use the bathroom? Oh right, that’s already happening.
