Last week, a huge turnout of Boston Crewmembers met in the Crew Lounge and decorated more than 90 Sweet Cases for Together We Rise, our new CSR partner. BlueCities across the network have joined together for this nonprofit organization that supports foster care children, and our inbox is overflowing with photos of everyone participating!
The Boston session was particularly special beause Together We Rise founder, Danny Mendoza, who started the organization when he was in college. Danny’s nine-year-old cousin was living in a car and reached out for support, but in his efforts to help the boy, Danny was faced with several obstacles from government agencies. So, he started his own charity that helps foster children and gives them the confidence to make changes in the world.
During the Sweet Cases decorating session, Danny spoke to our crewmembers, explaining how the program started and how important the bags are to foster children. Crewmembers were proud to show him our Caring Value in action.

During the holiday season our crewmembers work to light up lives across our network with Together We Rise – a nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of children moving through the foster care system. This year, we have decorated more than 2,000 Sweet Cases to donate to children who will move to three different locations before they receive their permanent placement. Giving them bags that are lovingly decorated by our crewmembers provides children in foster care with a sense of digity and empowerment because they are now able to move their belongings in a duffle bag instead of a trash bag. This one small change is something that helps us light up lives in the communities we serve.
Crewmembers in SEA gathered together to donate Sweet Cases to twenty children in Seattle –
LAS teamed up with Apple Grove Foster Care to light up the lives of 30 children with their Sweet Cases decorated with favorite cartoon characters and words of encouragement.
PDX gave children in foster care dragons, unicorns and rubber band bracelets!
In Orlando, Crewmembers invited children from age 4 to 17 to have a JetBlue University experience that included piloting a flight simulator, learning how to guide a plane and understanding airport operations.
In San Juan, PR crewmembers made sure the children received their super sweet cases just in time for Christmas at the Hogar Cuna San Cristobal.
Our crew in STI, delivered sweet cases with the help of some of the kids’ favorite character to the local children’s hospital.
Marty St. George, SVP of marketing and commercial strategy, created multi-color penguins for a foster child in NYC.

Yesterday, crewmembers from our Corporate Social Responsibility and Finance teams delivered 50 “Sweet Cases” and hosted a special celebration for foster children at the Graham Windham child welfare agency in Bronx, NY. These “Sweet Cases” were decorated by crewmembers from our Long Island City support center. “Sweet Cases” are decorative suit cases and duffle bags filled with stuffed animals, coloring books, hygiene kits and other items for children ages 4-10.
During January and February, crewmembers throughout JetBlue’s network will personally design and deliver close to 2,000 “Sweet Cases” with community partner Together We Rise, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children in the foster care system. On average children in the foster care system receive three different placements during their youth. Many times, they have to move with little or no notice and are often forced to pack their belongings in trash bags. Together We Rise, created “Sweet Cases” to provide these children with suit cases of their very own. Simple things such as a suitcase for their belongings can provide a child with a small sense of normalcy and really help their self-esteem.

In observance of National Day of Service, we’re encouraging our crewmembers across our 75 city network to make a positive impact in their local communities through volunteer service. This year’s “Light Up A Life” campaign will provide resources and support to children in foster care in partnership with Together We Rise (TWR), a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children in the foster care system.
During January and February, our crewmembers will decorate and deliver close to 2,000 “Sweet Cases” with TWR. “Sweet Cases” are decorative suit cases and duffle bags filled with stuffed animals, coloring books, hygiene kits and other items. Foster children are often forced to move with a moment’s notice and many times are only provided with a trash bag for their belongings. JetBlue partnered with the TWR to donate personally designed “Sweet Cases” to children ages 4-10.
JetBlue displays its “Caring” and “Passion” values by encouraging crewmembers to volunteer every day through our ‘Community Connection’ program. This volunteerism platform acknowledges and rewards our 14,500 crewmembers for their community service both as individuals and as teams. For every 25 hours a crewmember volunteers, JetBlue donates one roundtrip flight to the non-profit organization of the crewmember’s choice. Some volunteers have amassed more than 500 volunteer hours for causes including Making Strides for Breast Cancer, Charles River Center for Autism and KaBOOM!.

As the airline that takes caring to heart today along with our friends the Providence Bruins and T.F. Green International Airport we delivered more than 650 books to the Hasbro Children’s Hospital. JetBlue crewmembers joined players from the city’s famed ice hockey team in the hospital’s library for a special “story time” as part of the hospital’s Read To Me program.
The books were donated by generous citizens of Rhode Island via a donation drive organized by JetBlue. In a fun twist, JetBlue tweeted its location at the Bruins home arena, Dunkin’ Donuts Center, calling on people to bring three new or gently used books and dress in their best Floridian attire to win flight certificates and other goodies and enjoy treats from our partner Dunkin’ Donuts.
Check out pictures of the festive faux Floridians!
The airline that holds “caring” as one of its core values, JetBlue supports many causes in the communities in which it serves. Our most recent venture includes the launch of our seventh annual Light Up A Life campaign in honor of Monday’s National Day of Service. Crewmembers across JetBlue’s 75-city network have joined together to decorate and deliver 2,000 Sweet Cases with community partner Together We Rise (TWR), an organization that improves the lives of foster children across the nation. Crewmembers will also adorn 200 SoaringQuilts with SoaringWords, to deliver to children who suffer from serious illnesses to aid the healing process with creative and educational activities.

More and more crewmembers are breaking out their markers and gluesticks to design sweet cases for foster children as part of our annual Light Up a Life campaign. We’re proud to support our new partner, Together We Rise, a nonprofit organization that supports kids in the foster care system. Sweet Cases are chock full of the essentials for children who are often moved between different homes at a moment’s notice. Here are some photos of our Long Island City support center crewmembers in action:

A few members of our Finance team recently took a break from crunching numbers to spend some time supporting one of our Corporate social Responsibility campaigns, Light Up a Life. The group designated one of our conference rooms at our Long Island City Support Center as their studio, and created “Sweet Cases,” bags filled with necessities for young children. They’ll be delivered to the nonprofit organization Together We Rise, our new partner that will give them to foster care children who are moved between homes, often with little or no notice.

To support this year’s Light Up a Life campaign, our crewmembers at New York’s LaGuardia decorated sweet cases for foster children in collaboration with Together We Rise. This non-profit organization is our new Corporate Social Responsibility partner and focuses on improving the lives of foster children. One way we’re getting involved is through sweet cases, which are made by volunteers and contain the necessities for children who are moved throughout the foster care system often with little or no notice.

For our seventh annual Light Up a Life campaign we’re partnering with two fantastic organizations: Together We Rise and Soaringwords. The next few months are all about bringing the holiday spirit to children across the cities we serve, and each year, our crewmembers go above and beyond to bring our airline’s culture of giving to those in need.
Together We Rise is a non-profit organization that works with foster children across the nation. It develops programs and activities to enrich their lives, and also offers one-on-one support. From sports camp and music to mentoring and counseling, Together We Rise aims to help these children feel connected during tough times.
Soaringwords also works with youth, but in the capacity of helping children who suffer from a serious illness—and their families. It’s all about connecting these children and loved ones with volunteers who communicate a “never give up!” attitude. Through creative and educational activities—both in person and online—Soaringwords tries to heal by providing hope and a few laughs.
What we’re doing
For the Light Up a Life season, our crewmembers will be channeling their creative side. In partnership with Together We Rise, we’ll be making Sweet Cases, which are decorative suit cases and duffel bags filled with new supplies (stuffed animals, coloring books, hygiene kits, etc.) for children who are moved around the foster care system, sometimes with little or no notice. Also, just like last year, we’ll be making and delivering SoaringQuilts to children in hospitals.
